I bought this brush for use in calligraphy, though I think it would most definitely be a very useful brush in painting. The brush retains its shape very well, the tip is good though the bristles do separate somewhat as you work. But brush slowly and keep shaping the bristles on your stone and it works fine. Due to the shorter length, side strokes require a bit more angling of the handle as you work. A high quality brush that is fine for kaishou style.
