Lesson 42: Fu Baoshi Style Figure with Luo Laiying

Eventually, here is our lesson on how to paint figures in Chinese brush painting! Our teacher is prof Luo Laiying, who is master Fu Baoshi's niece. Professor Luo is specialized in Fu Baoshi style figure painting, in which she combines the elegant lines of Fu Baoshi's classical figure painting with colorful Western washing techniques that she learned from her cousin Fu Xiaoshi, Fu's oldest son and a famous figure painter. This video lesson was recorded in Luo Laiying's art studio in Nanjing on March 9, 2015 with Leasha Harrison, your classmate from Australia.

Optional Assignment

Try to find the difference between Fu Baoshi and his son Fu Xiaoshi's figure paintings by study the sample paintings provided in handouts, and try to combine the old and the new styles and techniques in your own copy.
