Materials: Made of a mixture of synthetic horse tail and goat hairs, this specialty big brush, designed by Master Xu Laosan, is ideal for painting large-scale artworks and executing bold strokes, such as lotus leaves, or for writing in large-size calligraphy. The traditional name for this brush is Jing-zhua or "Peking Grab," which has been used for hundreds of years. This name suggests that the brush might be too heavy to hold in the normal way when loaded, so the artist must "grab" the handle in the hand (see picture). With an easy to split tip, it is perfect for contemporary abstract painting or Zen style landscape with splash ink techniques.
