1. Search "dogwood" or "Cornus florida" on the internet and learn as much botanic knowledge as possible about this tree blossom. Use Google image to find three most beautiful and inspiring photographs of dogwood as your reference. Here is a good example. 

2. Spontaneous style practice: Watch the first two parts of the class video, practice your strokes using magic cloth, newspaper or abandoned painting paper first before you attempt a complete painting. Pay attention to the dense and sparse grouping of flowers (start with 3,5, or 7). Your main branch should engage at least one edge of the paper but you should avoid to start it right from the corner or from the middle of any side. You may paint the flowers in color or with ink only, with or without outlines. 

3. Gongbi style practice: Please start with a pencil drawing and then trace the outline with a ink liner. Then color it in separate washes(one color brush and one clean brush) as shown in the class video.
