Location: Online via Zoom
Join us for an enriching artistic experience as we delve into the elegant world of Gongbi painting with renowned artist Victoria Li. In this workshop, we will focus on the graceful and symbolic Geranium flower (天竺葵), a plant known for its beauty and resilience, making it a popular choice for window decorations. The Geranium's young plants are succulent and herbaceous, while older ones become semi-woody. Its leaves are round or fan-shaped, some species feature the distinct "Horse shoes" pattern on their surface. The flowers bloom in a range of colors, including white, red, purple, pink, and orange, with the fullest bloom in spring, though they can flower year-round.
Gongbi, celebrated for its intricate detail and precision, is the ideal medium to capture the nuanced forms and vibrant colors of these enchanting flowers. Throughout this class, you will gain insight into how to portray the delicate Geranium petals, their stems, and leaves, applying the traditional techniques of Gongbi to bring this flower to life. The Gongbi painting reference sample is from the most authoritative textbook, The Gongbi Flower Paintings by 3 Masters. The artist of this Geranium painting piece is master Tian Shiguang (1916-1999).
